About Quantum Resistant Crypto
Independent research measuring cryptocurrency quantum resistance. Built on transparent methodology, updated weekly, designed for informed decision-making.
Our Mission
To provide the most comprehensive, transparent, and actionable assessment of quantum computing risk across the cryptocurrency ecosystem, helping investors, developers, and researchers make informed decisions before Q-Day arrives.
Why This Exists
Quantum computing isn’t science fiction. It’s an engineering challenge being solved by teams at Google, IBM, IonQ, and dozens of well-funded startups. When cryptographically relevant quantum computers (CRQCs) arrive, the mathematical foundations protecting most cryptocurrencies will break.
This isn’t speculation. Shor’s algorithm, published in 1994, provides a proven method to solve the discrete logarithm and integer factorization problems in polynomial time. The only question is when, not if.
Yet most cryptocurrency holders have no visibility into:
- Which blockchains are most vulnerable
- Whether their holdings use exposed public keys
- Which projects have credible migration plans
- How governance structures affect upgrade timelines
We built Quantum Resistant Crypto to answer these questions systematically. Unlike marketing-driven “quantum-safe” claims, our assessments are grounded in protocol specifications, on-chain data, and peer-reviewed cryptographic research.
Our Operating Principles
1. Research-Driven
Every assessment is grounded in protocol whitepapers, technical specifications, academic papers, and verifiable on-chain data. We don’t rely on marketing materials or project self-assessments.
2. Methodology Transparent
Our 7-dimension scoring model is fully documented. Every weight, formula, and threshold is public. You can reproduce our calculations and challenge our assumptions.
3. Financially Independent
We accept no payment for rankings or coverage. No project can buy a better score. Our assessments reflect technical reality, not commercial relationships.
4. Regularly Updated
Weekly review cycles ensure scores reflect current protocol status. Major announcements (successful migrations, new PQC proposals) trigger 48-hour reassessment.
5. Accessible Yet Rigorous
We balance technical accuracy with clear explanation. Complex concepts are explained without sacrificing precision. Our glossary defines all specialized terms.
The 7-Dimension Scoring Model
Each cryptocurrency is evaluated across seven weighted dimensions that measure quantum resistance:
| Dimension | Weight | What It Measures |
|---|---|---|
| Signature Resistance | 35% | Quantum strength of signature algorithms (ECDSA, EdDSA, XMSS) |
| Consensus Security | 15% | Protocol-level quantum dependency (PoW vs PoS vs BFT) |
| Key Protection | 15% | Percentage of value behind unexposed public keys |
| Crypto-Agility | 12% | Ability to upgrade cryptographic primitives |
| Hash Strength | 8% | Post-Grover security margin of hash functions |
| Pairing-Free Status | 8% | Avoidance of BLS signatures and KZG commitments |
| Operational Mitigations | 7% | Active measures reducing quantum exposure |
Higher scores indicate stronger quantum resistance. Scores range from 0 (critical vulnerability) to 100 (fully quantum-resistant). The Dependency Multiplier is applied as a divisor for wrapped assets and cross-chain tokens, reducing their final score.
Data Verification Process
Every data point goes through a five-step verification process:
- Protocol Documentation: Primary source review of whitepapers, technical specifications, and official documentation
- On-Chain Verification: Blockchain analytics to verify claimed architectures and measure actual key exposure
- Governance Analysis: Review of BIPs, EIPs, and proposal histories to assess upgrade capability
- Academic Cross-Reference: Validation against peer-reviewed cryptographic research
- Continuous Monitoring: Ongoing tracking of project announcements, upgrades, and community discussions
